Glenmorangie adds 1989 vintage to new range

Glenmorangie has released the second whisky in its Bond House No. 1 Collection, which has been part-matured in ex-Côte-Rôtie casks.

Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1989 is created using some of the last liquid distilled at the Highland brand’s former still house.

It is the second release in the Bond House No. 1 Collection, following Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1990, launched in December 2016.

The collection aims to showcase the distillery’s “most complex and elegant” vintage malts and takes its name from the largest of Glenmorangie’s 19th century bonded warehouses.

Due to increased consumer demand, Bond House No. 1 was transformed into a still house and is where Glenmorangie is distilled today.

Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1989 is aged for 27 years. It contains a parcel of liquid finished in casks that once held Côte-Rôtie wine – created from the co-fermentation of Shiraz and Viognier grapes – as well as other ex-wine casks, ex-oloroso Sherry casks and ex-Bourbon casks.

Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s director of distilling, whisky creation and whisky stocks, said: “Each cask in the assemblage had been carefully chosen to complement the exquisite depths brought to the whisky by the parcel finished in ex-Côte- Rôtie casks.

“The resulting expression beautifully balances the subtle finesse of Glenmorangie’s spirit with a rare richness and intensity.”

Glenmorangie Grand Vintage Malt 1989 will be available from specialist retailers from 6 April at an RRP of £550 (US$773).

Earlier this year, Glenmorangie announced plans to add a second still house to its site under a multi-million-pound expansion plan.
