Douglas Laing partners with bartenders for new Epicurean

Douglas Laing has created a cask-strength version of its Lowland blended malt, The Epicurean – the result of a collaboration between the firm and Glasgow bartenders.

The independent blender and bottler has released 3,000 bottles of The Epicurean Cask Strength ‘Glasgow’ Limited Edition, bottled at 58.6%.

Douglas Laing, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, invited eight bartenders to its Glasgow headquarters to create their own blends using Lowland single malts.

Each blend was judged by Fred Laing, managing director of the company, with the winner deemed to be “bursting with zesty citrus, green fruits and a sweet nuttiness”.

“Our city is celebrated not only for its landmarks, but also for its restaurants and bars, and most often for its people,” said Laing. “This unique recipe, The Epicurean bottling, is a most fitting tribute to our home.”

The Epicurean Cask Strength ‘Glasgow’ Limited Edition will be available globally from May at an RRP of £45.99 (US$65).

Douglas Laing first launched The Epicurean in 2016 as an expansion of its Remarkable Regional Malts collection.

Last year, the group announced plans to move into distilling with the construction of a multi-million-pound site in Glasgow.
