Portobello Road to open new bar and still room

London-based gin Portobello Road plans to open a new bar and still room, which the brand will use to boost production of its small batch expressions.

Tonica By The Distillery will house a 30l still to boost production of the brand’s small batch expressions

Tonica By The Distillery will open next month at London’s Exmouth Market as an extension of the distillery’s Notting Hill home.

Boasting a 100-cover restaurant and bar on the ground floor as well as an event space and working still room in the basement, the new venue will aim to transport the atmosphere of the distillery across London.

Portobello Road founding director Ged Feltham said: “From one iconic market street to another, we are delighted to bring the distillery’s unique offering to London’s busy Exmouth Market.

“Like the distillery, Tonica provides us with a new hub for craft and innovation with its working still room and house-made spirits.

“There is also a dedicated event space, where we plan to launch a programme of unique experiences by The Ginstitute later in the year – so watch this space.”

Tonica’s drinks offering will be curated by Portobello Road master distiller, Jake F Burger, and features a host of cocktails, wines and signature gin serves – as well as a number of house spirits, made using a 30l alembic copper still housed in the bar’s basement.

The new still room will also support the production of the brands small batch and artisan spirits, which includes an avocado vodka, butter gin and horseradish and rosemary vodka.

The London-based gin brand has previously used its small batch Director’s Cut range to release the ‘world’s first’ turkey breast gin and an expression made with peated juniper.
