Michter’s unveils 10-year-old single barrel Bourbon

Kentucky-based Michter’s Distillery has drawn on the experience of its master distiller and master of maturation for a new 10-year-old single barrel Bourbon.

The 10-year-old expression has been made in collaboration between Michter’s master distiller and master of maturation

Andrea Wilson, Michter’s master of maturation, holds a position which is uncommon in Kentucky Bourbon distilleries and is responsible for managing barrel specifications and procurement, as well as heat cycling and monitoring of liquid temperatures during ageing.

Michter’s 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon has been created by Wilson in collaboration with Michter’s master distiller, Pamela Heilmann, as a celebration of the different stages of Bourbon production.

Wilson said: “By having two masters, Michter’s is recognising that there are two very distinct phases of making Kentucky Bourbon. I’m extremely honoured to be able to support Pam.”

The 10-year-old expression is described as having sweet spice, dried fruit and menthol notes on the nose and an earthy, peppery dryness on the palate.

Heilmann said: “Our goal is to make the greatest American whiskey. At Michter’s the standards are incredibly high, and we only release something when it’s ready, not just because it’s 10 years and a day old.

“It’s great to be able to work with someone as knowledgeable about wood science and whiskey as Andrea. When we tasted this 10 Year Bourbon, both of us were very happy and very excited to release it this year.”

Bottled at 47.2% abv, Michter’s 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon has a suggested retail price of US$120 per 750ml bottle.

Michter’s Distillery is currently preparing to expand its operations in Springfield, Kentucky, after an affiliate of the brand, Springwater Kentucky Realty, purchased 145 acres of land.
