Simmons was previously at William Grant & Sons where he worked as global ambassador for The Balvenie – a position he had held since 2010.

A Keeper of the Quaich, he has also held positions at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society and The Whisky Exchange, and founded the Dr Whisky blog.

Hemy was appointed as head of distillation in late 2017, and brings experience as head distiller and consultant at start-up establishments, including Welsh distillery Aber Falls.

Before joining Atom Brands, Hemy worked for Halewood Wines and Spirits where she launched the firm’s distilling operations. She has also worked for Whyte & Mackay’s Dalmore distillery.

Ben Ellefsen, Atom Brands managing director, said: “I can’t conceive of any two people in the world I’d want in these roles more than Lora and Sam.

“They both combine absolute relentless drive and enthusiasm for the spirits category with a knowledge base that’s world-class to generate respect and admiration from industry colleagues and customers alike.

“These appointments represent an investment for the future and underline our unyielding commitment to liquid quality without compromise.”
