Visitor numbers to MEADFA Conference rise
The Middle East & Africa Duty Free Association (MEADFA) has hailed an “impressive” number of delegates at its annual conference, despite changing the location from Beirut to Dubai at the last minute.
The MEADFA Conference moved from Beirut to Dubai at late notice
The MEADFA Conference was initially scheduled to take place in November at the Phoenicia Hotel in Beirut, Lebanon.
The event was moved to Dubai at the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel on 28-30 January due to political uncertainty following the resignation of Lebanon’s prime minister, Saad Hariri.
Despite the late rescheduling, 489 delegates attended the conference – a “slight increase” on the number of visitors to the last event in November 2016.
“I would like to thank all those people and organisations that have helped this event to be such a success,” said MEADFA president, Haitham Al Majali. “We are immensely grateful to our sponsors; we could not have put on the conference without them.”
Al Majali added that MEADFA has renewed its partnership with the Tax Free World Association (TFWA), which will organise the conference for another two years.
“We look forward to welcoming old friends and new colleagues to our next event, of which details will be announced very shortly,” he said.
