The Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has appointed Kari Daniels, commercial director for packaged products at Tesco, to its board of directors.

Kari Daniels is the most senior retail figure to join the WSTA board

Daniels joined the UK-based retailer in 2002 and has 25 years’ experience in consumer goods manufacturing and retail.

As the most senior retail figure to join the WSTA board, Daniels has worked across various categories including, health and beauty, chilled foods, and beers, wine and spirits.

Daniels said: “The challenges for the wine and spirit industry are significant and highly relevant for UK business.

“Consumers are increasingly demanding that businesses take their commitments to responsibility and sustainability seriously.”

Robin McMillan will also join Daniels on the WSTA board. Having spent close to 30 years in the wine trade, McMillan joins the WSTA alongside his role as chief executive officer of The Wine Society.

McMillan has chaired the WSTA’s Distance Selling Panel for six years.

Dan Jago, chairman of the WSTA, said: “I am delighted to welcome both Kari and Robin to the board. They will add further substance and skill to the WSTA board.”

Earlier this year, the trade association issued calls for an end to all existing trade tariffs between the UK and Australia and New Zealand.
