GlenDronach celebrates Sherry casks with new edition
Brown-Forman has launched an “extremely rare” 24-year-old single malt Scotch whisky from its Highlands-based GlenDronach Distillery.
The GlenDronach Grandeur Batch 9 has been matured exclusively in Spanish Sherry buttsThe GlenDronach Grandeur Batch 9 consists of three single malt vintages distilled in 1990, 1992 and 1993, all exclusively aged in Spanish Sherry butts.
Each bottle is sealed with wax and individually hand-numbered.
“In The GlenDronach Grandeur Batch 9, an unparalleled range of the finest aromas and tastes have been composed from masterful Spanish oak Sherry cask maturation, patient ageing and careful cask selection,” said master blender Rachel Barrie.
“Grandeur Batch 9 is a single malt of finesse, powerful complexity and persistence, reaching heights of maturity and depth of character that approach single malt perfection. [It] is the pinnacle of the signature style, representing rich layers of Highland heritage and terroir, intensified through patient ageing in the best Spanish oak Sherry casks.”
The GlenDronach Grandeur Batch 9 is bottled at 48.7% abv without chill-filtration or caramel colouring. Only 1,487 bottles are available globally at an RRP £450 (US$625).
GlenDronach, part of The BenRiach Distillery Company, was acquired by US drinks group Brown-Forman in 2016. The distillery recently unveiled a peated single malt finished in Port pipes from the Douro Valley.
