Campbeltown to host Scottish gin festival

Campbeltown may be best known for its Scotch, but the whisky-making region is set to welcome its first gin festival this spring.

Gintyre will be Campbeltown’s first gin festival

The new event, called Gintyre, is a collaboration between Beinn an Tuirc Distillers, Explore Campbeltown and Campbeltown Town Hall, and aims to celebrate Scottish gin producers.

The main event will be held on 21 April in Campbeltown Town Hall, where guests will have the chance to meet producers and try gins from local companies, including Beinn an Tuirc Distillers, which creates Kintyre Gin, and William Cadenhead, which produces Old Raj.

Live musical entertainment will be provided by Scottish jazz group Rose Rooms. A number of Fringe events are also planned for the weekend, such as a gin dinner at the Ardshiel Hotel, an open day at Beinn an Tuirc Distillery, a Cadenhead’s cask-aged gin tasting, plus a gin-related screening at the Campbeltown Picture House.

Emma Macalister Hall, Beinn an Tuirc Distillers director, said: “Our aim is to encourage visitors to come to Kintyre to experience this unique part of Scotland whilst taking the opportunity to sample some of Scotland’s finest gins.”
