WSET board of trustees names new chairman

The Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) has made two changes to its board of trustees, including the appointment of Nick Hyde as chairman.

Hyde succeeds James Simpson MW, who stepped down from the position after completing his six-year tenure as a WSET trustee.

Hyde will represent the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA), of which he was previously chairman. He is also chairman of Vranken Pommery UK.

Hyde said: “As chairman, my role and that of the board will be to ensure that the conditions are in place for the successful transition to this exciting new chapter. It will certainly be a challenge made easier by the extraordinary energy and commitment of the WSET team.”

Simon McMurtrie has also joined the WSET board of trustees after stepping down from his two-year post as chairman of Berry Bros & Rudd’s family board. He will represent the Vintners’ company.

Ian Harris, WSET chief executive, said: “It is an honour to have such industry talent and experience on the board. I look forward to working with Nick, Simon and the wider board as we continue to lay the path for the future of the WSET.”
