Entries open for 2018 Alan Lodge writing award

The Spirits Business has kicked off its latest search for talented drinks journalists with the launch of the Alan Lodge Young International Drinks Writer of the Year Award 2018.

The competition is open to international drinks writers, bloggers and columnists under the age of 35 who cover the wine, beer, spirits and cocktail sectors.

Entrants have until Thursday 29 March to submit up to three pieces of writing published online or in print between 1 January and 31 December 2017.

Launched in 2012 in memory of Alan Lodge, the late deputy editor of The Spirits Business, the award will be assessed by an independent panel of judges.

The winner of The Alan Lodge Young International Drinks Writer of the Year 2018 accolade will be announced at The Drinks Business Awards, set to take place during the London Wine Fair in May 2018.

Previous recipients of the award include Hamish Smith, Laura Foster, Amy Hopkins, Tyler Wetherall and Margarett Waterbury.

Hopkins said: “The Alan Lodge Young International Drinks Writer of the Year Award has two primary aims: to honour the memory of a much loved and missed drinks journalist, and to showcase and celebrate new writing talent around the world.

“The award is an incredible validation for young journalists and is a great boost to their credentials. I’d encourage anyone who is proud of something they’ve written to enter.”
