Diageo outlines plans for 2018 International Scotch Day

The world’s largest spirits producer, Diageo, will offer whisky tastings and free distillery visitor centre tours as it celebrates the second International Scotch Day.

Events will take place around the world to celebrate Scotch Whisky on 8 February

On 8 February, Scotch whisky will be celebrated across the globe with a host of special events, including numerous tastings, plus free distillery visitor centre tours on the 8, 9 and 10 February.

The public will also be given a rare opportunity to go behind-the-scenes at the Diageo Archive in Menstrie, near Alloa – the biggest drinks industry archive in the world. With access to the Liquid Library containing a collection of over 5,000 bottles, International Scotch Day offers aficionados a unique chance to visit the Archive and immerse themselves in the unparalleled heritage of the Scotch Whisky industry.

Now in its second year, the day is a celebration of all things Scotch whisky and is intended to “cement Scotch’s status as both the world’s favourite whisky and the perfect drink to be shared with good company”.

Ronan Beirne, global brand marketing director at Diageo said: “Last year we launched International Scotch Day and its huge success proved what we at Diageo already knew – the world loves Scotch.

“This year is going to be even bigger, with celebrations taking place globally, from Scotch Whisky tastings to opening the doors to Diageo’s archive in Scotland, free passes to distillery visitor centres and celebrity events in cities from Manila to Johannesburg”.

Across the world, celebrations and events will take place as Scotch aficionados, enthusiasts and fans raise a glass of their favourite whisky.

Ewan Gunn, global scotch whisky master for Diageo, said: “Scotch is made all the way across Scotland – from the romantic west coast, through the whisky heartland of Speyside, to the vibrant urban central belt of Scotland, and though it is made here, it belongs to the world and is truly the world’s favourite whisky.

“Hosting International Scotch Day for a second year shows how confident we are about the popularity of this truly international drink.”

The day will shine a spotlight on the entire Scotch whisky category and will celebrate the popularity of Scotch, which has been built through its “integrity, quality and authenticity.”

This years ambassadors will be announced in February, however last year’s event was fronted by supermodel Coco Rocha and actress Freida Pinto.
