Beam sues Stoli’s new chief commercial officer

Beam Suntory is taking legal action against former employee Rudy Costello, accusing the sales executive of breaching a non-compete agreement by joining Stoli Group USA.

Beam Suntory and Stoli Group USA are embroiled in a lawsuit

Costello is the former vice president, general sales manager for Beam Suntory and was recently named senior vice president and chief commercial and sales officer for Stoli Group USA.

Beam Suntory has filed a lawsuit with the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, claiming Costello’s appointment breaches non-compete terms he agreed to. The company is also seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent Costello from working at Stoli Group USA.

Clarkson Hine, SVP corporate communications and public affairs, Beam Suntory, said: “This is a clear violation of the non-compete obligation agreed to by this former employee, and we made every effort to resolve this matter amicably and in good faith. Regrettably, we were left with no choice but to pursue legal action to enforce the agreement.”

A spokesperson for Stoli Group USA said Costello has filed an opposition to the lawsuit, in which he “denies the allegations and claims put forth by his former employer”.

The case will continue this week.
