Balblair unveils new editions of 1991 and 2000 vintages

Highland single malt Scotch whisky producer Balblair is set to release a second edition of its 2000 vintage and a third edition of its 1991 expression this month.

Balblair is launching new editions of its 1991 and 2000 vintages

Both whiskies have been bottled at 46% abv, but the second variant of the 2000 edition has been aged for 13 years in American oak, ex-Bourbon casks and first-fill Spanish oak butts.

It is described as having aromas of seasoned oak, baked red apples, fruitcake, vanilla and ripe tropical fruits. The palate is said to have notes of ground spices and old hardwood, alongside tinned pineapples, bitter orange peel and honey, leading to a finish of sweetness, creaminess and bitter chocolate.

Meanwhile, the third release of the 1991 variant has been matured for 24 years in ex-Bourbon American oak casks, before spending a further three years in first-fill Spanish oak butts.

The nose is described as having notes of citrus fruits, vanilla, toffee, chocolate, honey, winter spices and apricot, while the palate boasts flavours of citrus, creamy chocolate, poached apples and pears, Christmas pudding and hot vanilla sauce. On the finish there is orange, toasted coconut, vanilla and caramel.

The 2000 vintage carries an RRP of £70 per bottle and the 1991 vintage has an RRP £125 per bottle.

Matt Jamieson, Balblair global brand manager, said: “At Balblair, we only release our whisky when it’s ready and these new vintages are no exception.

“Both featuring a very different nose and palate, the 2000 and 1991 are exquisite drams which are sure to appeal to the most discerning of whisky drinkers.”

In October last year, Balblair partnered with World Duty Free and Glasgow Airport to release a travel retail exclusive single cask bottling.
