Tullibardine releases 52-year-old whisky

Perthshire-based Tullibardine distillery has extended its Custodians Collection with the launch of a 52-year-old single malt whisky, priced at £1,990 (US$2,660).

Tullibardine 1962 is priced at £1,990 (US$2,660)

The expression consist of the distillery’s last two casks of the rare malt distilled on the 27th of December 1962, which has evolved over the last 50 years with the changing conditions of the surrounding Ochil Hills.

With only 250 bottles available and retailing at £1,990 the expression is set to attract whisky aficionados and collectors worldwide.

Tullibardine 1962 is matured in American oak casks for 52 years. On the nose, the whisky features “tantalising hints of a lush green meadow, mingled with citrus fruit”. Combines, the notes lead to “floral parma violets and subtle allspice”. The addition of water reveals “layers of zesty lemon and pineapple, filling the mouth with desiccated coconut and smooth dark chocolate on the finish”.

The Custodians Collection currently includes the “oldest and rarest” whisky ever released by the distillery, Tullibardine 1952, and Tullibardine 1970.

John Torrance, distillery manager at Tullibardine Distillery, said: “This is truly a very special release for the brand and distillery, and one which is precious to us here at Tullibardine. The 1962 makes up a trio of limited and sought-after malts, which are amongst the finest in the world. We hope that our customers join us to celebrate this historic release.’

Keith Geddes, master blender at Tullibardine, said: “The Tullibardine 1962 is a work of art, capturing the essence of Tullibardine and the effects of the surrounding environment. This is reflected in this special release, which following a lot of patience has blossomed to become a complex and luxurious whisky.”

For buying any of the whiskies from the Custodians Collection, customers will receive a lifetime membership to the Tullibardine Custodians Club in recognition of supporting the brand.

Limited to 250 bottles available, Tullibardine 1962 retails at £1,990 (US$2,660).
