The Macallan adds new 40yo to Sherry Oak range

Speyside Scotch whisky producer The Macallan has released just 465 bottles of a limited-edition 40-year-old single malt as part of its Sherry Oak range.

Macallan has unveiled a 40-year-old single malt as its 2017 Sherry Oak release

Bottled at 44% abv, The Macallan Sherry Oak 40 Years Old is now available globally, with 70 bottles allocated to the US at an RRP of US$9,000.

The whisky has been aged exclusively in Sherry-seasoned oak casks from Jerez, in the form of two Sherry butts and one Sherry hogshead.

The nose is said to offer aromas of sultanas, ginger and wood spice, along with cinnamon and citrus. Meanwhile on the palate there are flavours of cinnamon spices, dates and figs.

Nick Savage, The Macallan master distiller, said: “The Macallan Sherry Oak 40 years old is an outstanding and distinctive addition to our collection of unique, mature whiskies and is testament to our enduring desire to create peerless single malts.

“We invest more Sherry-seasoned casks than any other distillery in sourcing, crafting, seasoning and caring for our casks to create the depth, complexity and richness of flavour for which The Macallan is renowned.”
