Sazerac plans US$1 million expansion at Lewiston plant

Sazerac has pledged US$1 million to expand its Boston Brands of Maine bottling plant in Lewiston, where it produces Mr Boston Brandy.

Sazerac’s US$1 million expansion of its Lewiston plant will create 30 full-time jobs

The Boston Brands of Maine plant currently employs 130 people. The expansion will create at least 30 more full-time jobs, according to the company.

Sazerac acquired the bottling plant from Beam Suntory in April 2014 for an undisclosed sum.

The Louisiana-based company fought again Republican governor Paul LePage’s unsuccessful prohibition on in-state sales of miniature alcohol bottles, threatening to reconsider its planned expansion over the proposal.

“Sazerac moved into the Lewiston plant in 2013 when another bottler decided to leave the state. That has turned out to be an excellent decision, and we are now happy to be expanding and investing further in Maine’s economy,” said Gerry Reid of Sazerac.

Congressman Bruce Poliquin added: “I am thrilled that we have an American company that does business globally choosing to invest right here in Lewiston, Maine.

Sazerac provides good jobs for Mainers, and is the type of company we want to see locating in and expanding here in our state. This expansion is beneficial for Lewiston and beneficial for Maine.”
