Glen Garioch adds 17yo to Renaissance Series

Beam Suntory-owned Glen Garioch has unveiled the latest release in its Renaissance Collection, a 17-year-old single malt whisky.

The 17-year-old Scotch whisky has been aged in ex-Bourbon and Sherry casks

Glen Garioch is one of the oldest operating distilleries in Scotland and its Renaissance Collection is a four-part series of whiskies which charts the progress of whisky in the cask.

As the third chapter in the series, this 17-year-old whisky has spent its time maturing in ex-Bourbon and Sherry casks, giving the whisky “complex layers of creamy highland toffee and rich honeyed toast intermingling with velvety baked apricots, smooth malted caramel and a tangy, spicy-sweet orange marmalade finish”.

Judith Giegerich, international marketing manager malts for Beam Suntory, said: “Glen Garioch is a whisky with a rich heritage and we’re proud to be able to showcase this with The Renaissance Collection. The series takes consumers on the journey of whisky development and allows them to scale-up through the range. Chapter 3, the penultimate release in the series, illustrates the story perfectly and paves the way for the pinnacle of the series.”

The first release in the collection, Chapter One was released in 2015 at 15-years-old, Chapter is a 16-year-old expression released in 2016 and now, 2017 marks the release of this penultimate whisky in the collection.

Master blender, Ron Welsh, said: “Growing richer and bolder over time, The Renaissance Collection will take you on the fascinating journey that whisky goes through in the barrel. Glen Garioch 17-year-old showcases our unique flavour profile and perfectly continues our story of heritage, leading way to the pinnacle of the series, Glen Garioch 18-year-old.”

The Renaissance Collection joins Glen Garioch’s core range which includes Founder’s Reserve and Glen Garioch 12-year-old.

A limited number of bottles are available to purchase from the distillery’s visitor’s centre and specialist whisky suppliers for £100 (US$133).

The final release in the collection will be an 18-year-old expression, illustrating the renaissance of Glen Garioch’s single malt whisky.
