Daftmill’s first whisky to be released through Berry Bros

British wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has expanded its Scotch portfolio by signing a global distribution deal with Daftmill ahead of the release of the Lowland distillery’s first whisky.

Daftmill is one of a small number of single-estate distilleries in Scotland

One of Scotland’s newest and smallest distilleries, Daftmill produces only 100 casks of Scotch whisky a year.

Daftmill, a single estate distillery based in Fife, started production in 2005 under the guidance of founders Francis and Ian Cuthbert. They were granted permission to convert the old mill on their family farm into a distillery in 2002.

The Cuthbert’s grow all barley required to make their whisky, which is aged in Bourbon casks from Kentucky’s Heaven Hill. The whisky is distilled during the farm’s ‘off-season’ – two months in summer and two months in winter.

“What I find so appealing about Daftmill is their unique and traditional seasonal production cycle which is led by Francis’s quiet periods on the farm,” said Doug McIvor, reserve spirits manager at Berry Bros & Rudd.

“I also believe their sole use of the estate’s barley gives Daftmill’s whisky a real sense of terroir and true provenance. I’m confident that the spirit’s subtle Lowland charm will put Daftmill (and Fife) firmly on the whisky map.”

Details on Daftmill’s branding and new range are yet to be announced.
