Constellation appoints master distiller for spirits range

Constellation Brands has promoted Brendan Coyle to the role of master distiller for the US group’s spirits portfolio.

Brendan Coyle is master distiller of Constellation Brands’s entire spirits portfolio

In his expanded role, Coyle, the master distiller at High West Distillery, will help lead the growth of the firm’s global spirits portfolio.

Constellation Brands acquired craft whiskey producer High West Distillery for around US$160 million in October last year. The deal bolstered Constellation’s strategy to increase its premium focus in the US while at the same time enabling the firm to enter the fast-growing Bourbon and rye categories.

Coyle, who has worked at High West since its formation in 2007, will take a leading role in new product development and brand acquisitions.

Along with growth initiatives, he will also be a central figure in product quality, liquid sourcing and process integrity to ensure Constellation’s spirits are consistent and high quality.

Stationed out of Park City, Utah, Brendan will continue to be closely involved with the production and blending of all High West products.

Constellation Brands continued its acquisition streak with the purchase of a minority stake in The Bardstown Bourbon Company just two weeks after its acquisition of High West. The distillery is thought to be the largest new whiskey distillery in the US.
