Cognac industry creates food pairing app

The Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC) has partnered with chefs and sommeliers to develop a first-of-its-kind Cognac and food pairing app.

The Cognac Pairing app has been created for Cognac lovers, sommeliers and chefs

The Cognac Pairing app, available for free on Apple and Android phones, targets Cognac lovers, but can also be used as a global training tool for chefs and sommeliers in restaurants and bars.

It allows users to find food pairings for different styles of Cognac – VS, VSOP and XO.

For each variety, users are presented with a list of recipes, which have been adapted by leading chefs in partnership with French restaurant guide Gault & Millau.

In total, the BNIC worked with 45 tasting experts from around the world to create the pairings featured in the app, which also contains a quiz for users to test their knowledge of Cognac, and a dedicated Cognac news feed

Last month, the BNIC unveiled a new brand identity for the Cognac appellation, which it formed in collaboration with Cognac producers and negociants.
