Cognac industry creates food pairing app
By Amy HopkinsThe Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC) has partnered with chefs and sommeliers to develop a first-of-its-kind Cognac and food pairing app.
The Cognac Pairing app, available for free on Apple and Android phones, targets Cognac lovers, but can also be used as a global training tool for chefs and sommeliers in restaurants and bars.
It allows users to find food pairings for different styles of Cognac – VS, VSOP and XO.
For each variety, users are presented with a list of recipes, which have been adapted by leading chefs in partnership with French restaurant guide Gault & Millau.
In total, the BNIC worked with 45 tasting experts from around the world to create the pairings featured in the app, which also contains a quiz for users to test their knowledge of Cognac, and a dedicated Cognac news feed
Last month, the BNIC unveiled a new brand identity for the Cognac appellation, which it formed in collaboration with Cognac producers and negociants.
