Luxco hones spirits focus with wine sale

Rebel Yell Bourbon maker Luxco has sharpened its spirits focus with the sale of Ohio winery Meier’s Wine Cellars for an undisclosed sum.

Cellar Trends will now distribute Rebel Yell Bourbon and two Japanese whisky brands in the UK

The US drinks group offloaded the business to Paul T. Lux, who has acted as president of Meier’s Wine Cellars since its acquisition by Luxco in 2011.

“The divestiture of Meier’s will allow Luxco to focus on the increased growth and success of our portfolio of consumer spirits brands, including Exotico Tequila, Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon, Saint Brendan’s Irish Cream, as well we as the addition of our new distillery, Lux Row Distillers,” said Donn Lux, chairman and CEO of Luxco.

“Paul has been instrumental in re-engineering the Meier’s business and I am thrilled that we were able to complete this transaction – both for Paul’s success and the strong future of Meier’s.”

Paul Lux added: “Meier’s will continue to advance its position with its current strategic partnerships and will continue to entertain new venture opportunities.”

Luxco previously announced that it was due to start production of its new US$35 million Bourbon distillery in Kentucky by the end of this year.
