West Cork intros two Irish single malts
West Cork Distillers has launched two limited-edition single malt Irish whiskies made using barrels charred with bog oak and peat from Ireland’s Glengarriff Forest.
West Cork Distiller has launched Glengarriff Peat Charred Cask and Glengarriff Bog Oak Charred Cask
Glengarriff Peat Charred Cask and Glengarriff Bog Oak Charred Cask have been aged in Sherry casks for four years. They are then finished in barrels that have been charred with fuel sources obtained from the Glenfarriff Forest, West Cork. The charring device used by the company was built with the assistance of a fifth-generation blacksmith.
Glengarriff Peat Charred Cask has aromas of “dried leather and spice”, and on the palate has flavours of “malt and cracked pepper”, with a “long-lasting finish of malt, nutmeg and dried fruit”. Glengarriff Bog Oak Charred Cask is “smoky and slightly sweet with peaty undertones”.
In spring 2018, two more expressions will be added to the collection – Glengarriff Cherry Charred Cask and Glengarriff Apple Charred Cask.
The new expressions will launch later this month with an RRP of US$44.99. Only 4,800 bottles will be available.
