Sagamore Spirit to launch two rye whiskeys

Baltimore-based rye whiskey producer Sagamore Spirit Distillery is set to release two limited-edition whiskeys under its Sagamore Reserve label.

Sagamore Spirit Distillery will release Double Oak and Moscatel Barrel Finish next week

The expressions, called Double Oak and Moscatel Barrel Finish, will be available for a limited time throughout autumn.

Double Oak has notes of “smooth caramel and dark vanilla”. Its base, Sagamore Spirits’ Straight Rye Whiskey, is aged for four years, then moved to wave stave barrels for four months. These barrels are toasted “resulting in a high concentration of caramelised sugars”. According to the company, the wave stave barrels have specialised grooves that age the whiskey quicker.

Moscatel Barrel Finished Rye Whiskey is made with the distillery’s Straight Rye Whiskey. The whiskey is aged for 107–110 days in Moscatel fortified wine barrels from the south of Spain. The distillery acquired 20 barrels to make the expression, making it a “very limited batch”.

The whiskey has a flavour profile of “dark fruits such as fig and plum” and “warm spicy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg”.

President of Sagamore Spirits, Brian Treacy said: “We are very proud of the addition of the two, new limited time offer whiskies, and we are certain they will provide new and exciting drinking experiences for our fans throughout the country.”

Both expressions will be available next week from any location that Sagamore Spirits are currently sold, with an RRP of US$59.99 for Double Oak and US$79.99 for Moscatel Barrel Finish.

In April this year, Sagamore Spirit Distillery opened its doors to the public, complete with a historical visitor experience and three tasting rooms.
