Spirit Cartel, the UK distributor, suggests that “demand is likely to outstrip supply”.
The new expression features three of the brand’s 10 Bourbons: a 13- and 15-year old from the distillery’s OESK recipe, and a 12 year old from its OESV recipe. According to the company, it is the distiller’s first limited-edition expression to use only its low rye mash bill.
Accompanying tasting notes suggest that on the nose there are “aromas of allspice and vanilla bean” with “rich apricot and stewed fruits”. On the palate, “bright raspberry flavours” give way to “maraschino cherry and light oak”.
“The magic happened early on with this Bourbon. After only the third test blend, I knew we had hit the target and then some,” said Brent Elliot, the company’s master distiller.
“In subsequent blind samplings this one always stood out – there’s a remarkable synergy among the three batches. Once combined, it resulted in more depth, richness and warmth than in any one of the individual recipes.”
The company also recently secured a listing with Marks & Spencer, with the expression made available in all of the UK retailer’s stores.
2017 Small Batch Limited Edition Bourbon is bottled at 53.9% abv and has an RRP of £130 (US$171).
