Dutch Spirits founder Toon Blij retires
By Nicola CarruthersSloane’s Gin producer Dutch Spirits has announced its founder and CEO Toon Blij will retire from the role and will be succeeded by managing director Andy Mallows.
Founder Toon Blij will be succeeded by managing director Andy Mallows
Blij bought Toorank from Metaxa in 1990, with the business currently trading in 50 markets worldwide.
The company produces Sloane’s Premium Dry Gin, as well as third-party and private label brands.
“It is with a heavy heart that we see Toon move on from the business – he has been a true mentor and father figure within the business and I will have a big job to fill his shoes,” said Mallows. “Dutch Spirits is a family-run organisation and the family spirit is engrained within the DNA of the whole business’.
Mallows plans to drive the company forward by focusing on the development, production and supply of the firm’s spirit and liqueur portfolio.
Mallows continued: “Thanks to Toon, we are on route to becoming the biggest Dutch distilling group – we will miss him but are pleased he’ll continue to advise at board level.”
In April this year, Toorank changed its name to Dutch Spirits as part of a “new growth phase” to push the company beyond its current core markets of Holland, UK, USA and Poland.
