Belvedere unveils terroir-focused range

LVMH-owned vodka brand Belvedere has released two expressions as part of a new terroir-focused range, called Belvedere Single Estate Rye Series.

Belvedere Single Estate Rye Series launches with two expressions: Smogóry Forest and Lake Bartęże

The Belvedere Single Estate Rye Series launches with two vodkas – Smogóry Forest and Lake Bartężek.

The range explores the idea of terroir in vodka, claiming that climate variation affects the taste produced from the Polish dankowskie diamond rye used in each expression.

Smogóry Forest is made entirely from dankowskie diamond rye grown at a single small estate in western Poland. The region is known for its vast forests, short, continental weather fronts, mild winters and fertile soils. The vodka is described as having notes of “salted caramel, a touch of honey and white pepper”, with a salty-sweet finish.

Lake Bartężek is crafted from dankowskie diamond rye grown at a single farm in northern Poland’s Mazury lake district, a region known for its glacial lakes, weather shaped by Baltic winds and long, snowy winters. The rye in this region spends over 80 winter days buried in snow. Taking its name from Lake Bartężek, it is described as “full, round and mellow” with notes of black pepper, toasted nuts and cream.

The packaging of the range features a square base that gradually transitions to a round top and a shorter neck borrows. Smogóry Forest features a smoky grey colour while Lake Bartężek’s is a deep blue.

“Terroir is not simply a notional concept, it really does shine through in our food and drink and enables us to experience the history and traditions of a place through our palate and senses,” said Claire Smith-Warner, head of spirits education for Moët Hennessy. “We hope this innovation will leave people with a better understanding of terroir and a fresh perspective on vodka and its potential to be much more than a neutral spirit. We’ve always championed that vodka has complex taste and character and this series is further evidence of the approach to vodka that defines Belvedere.”

Belvedere Smogóry Forest and Lake Bartężek can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks. In a cocktail, it is recommended as an alternative in classic rye whisky cocktails.

Belvedere Smogóry Forest and Lake Bartężek are available in select international markets including the UK, US, France, Australia and others in early 2018. The expressions are available at an RRP of £49 each from Clos19.
