The multi-purpose site will also house a retail center, restaurant, events complex and a replica of the original still that famed moonshiner and bootlegger Clyde May used to create his whiskey in the woods of Alabama back in the 1940s.

“We continuously market our Clyde May’s brand in the spirit of our founder, Clyde May,” said Roy Danis, president and CEO, Conecuh Ridge Distillery. “His values of quality, integrity and craftsmanship are the building blocks of our company today.”

Danis joined the governor of Alabama, Kay Ivey; Troy mayor Jason Reeves; and members of the May family at a ceremony in Troy to formally announce the distillery.

The whiskey, referred to as “the Official State Spirit of Alabama”, is a blend of five- and six-year-old Bourbon with added apple extract.

Danis, formerly managing director of Campari America, joined Clyde May’s as chief executive officer in 2015.
