Bacardí Legacy hosts UK workshops ahead of 10th year

The team behind Bacardí Legacy is hosting a series of bartender education workshops as UK entries open for the 10th edition of the global cocktail competition.

Bacardí Legacy has returned for its tenth year

Aimed at inspiring the next generation of Legacy entrants, the first series of events took place in Leeds, Birmingham and London, with workshops in Belfast and Edinburgh remaining.

Led by Metinee Kongsrivilai, UK brand ambassador for Bacardí, and and Ian Burrell, global rum ambassador and Bacardí Legacy judge, each workshop is split into three parts.

It begins with a seminar on the history of rum classics, followed by a talk on ‘how not to win the Legacy competition’ covering classic competition errors, and ends with a guided tasting of Bacardí Carta Blanca, Bacardí Carta Oro and Bacardí Ocho Años Reserve.

“We’re very excited to seeing what this year’s competition brings to the table,” said Kongsrivilai. “There have been some truly outstanding cocktails produced through Legacy and we are in no doubt that this year will be any different.”

Bartenders are challenged to create a Bacardí rum cocktail that they believe has the potential to sit alongside classics such as the Mojito and Daiquiri.

Selected UK entrants will compete in regional heats across the country, and the winners will go through to the National Finals in Amsterdam in November. One UK winner will then travel to Mexico City to compete in the global final of Bacardí Legacy.

To sign up for the Belfast workshop on 11 September or the Edinburgh workshop on 13 September email Kongsrivilai at metinee@bacardi.com

Last year Ran Van Ongevalle from Belgium triumphed in the final of the Bacardí Legacy Cocktail Competition 2017, held in Berlin, Germany.
