Stirling Gin to open distillery in home city

The husband and wife behind Stirling Gin are set to open what is thought to be the first distillery within the city boundary of Stirling, in Scotland.

Stirling Gin’s new distillery will be based in a former blacksmiths

June and Cameron McCann has purchased a 19th building, which was formerly a blacksmiths and is based next to Stirling Castle, and plan to convert it into a distillery and visitors’ centre.

Refurbishment work on the Old Smiddy on Stirling’s Lower Castlehill has already started with the involvement of a local architect and building firm.

The McCann’s first created Stirling Gin in their kitchen two years ago

“We had been looking for the perfect site and always knew the building would find us and it has – distilling from ‘Scotland’s heart’ was always our intention,” said June McCann.

“The Old Smiddy felt like the right place from the moment we entered it. Being in the shadow of Stirling Castle, along with the blank canvas it offered, meant it was an opportunity which couldn’t be missed.”

Stirling Gin was initially created in the McCann’s kitchen in 2015, using two tiny copper stills.

The brand’s new distillery is expected to be fully operational next summer.
