Former Seagram’s distillery catches fire
By Nicola CarruthersThe former Seagram’s distillery in Dundalk, Baltimore has reportedly caught fire for the third time this year.
A fire tore through the abandoned Seagram’s plant in Baltimore on MondayFirefighters were called to the abandoned distillery on Sollers Point Road, which has not been utilised since the 1990’s, after a blaze tore through the plant earlier this week.
Nearly 20 fire engines arrived at the plant, where a burning warehouse was discovered. Due to the structure being deemed unsafe after the fire caused the ceiling to collapse, firefighters had to tackle the fire from outside.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the fire department has been called out to the Seagram’s property 29 times since 2012. This year alone, firefighters have also visited the site on 3 July and 10 July.
The 12-acre property is currently owned by Sollers Investors and has received approval to build 185 townhouses in a project called the Foundry Station.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
