Chivas Brothers strike called off as talks resume

Planned industrial action at Chivas Brothers’ Kilmalid production site in Scotland has been called off this week after both sides agreed to further talks.

Unite the Union claims workers at Chivas Brothers’ Paisley site earn more than those doing the same work at Kilmalid

Last week, more than 100 employees protested against an alleged £900 pay disparity between workers at the Kilmalid site and nearby Paisley site. However, chairman and CEO of Chivas Brothers, Laurent Lacassagne, said this figure was “inaccurate”.

Further strike action had been planned for 14 and 15 August this week, but further discussions have now been agreed to try and resolve the situation.

A spokesperson for Pernod Ricard, parent company of Chivas Brothers, said: “We can confirm that industrial action by union members at our Kilmalid site has been suspended.

“Having maintained an open dialogue throughout this process, we have a further meeting scheduled this week and hope to reach an agreement.

“GMB and Unite members at Paisley, Southern Operations and Northern Operations have now all accepted our pay offer.”

Trade union body Unite the Union has been contacted for additional comment.
