Survey: Most Americans would ditch booze to see Trump impeached

A survey has revealed that more than 73% of Democrat voters and 17% of Republicans would give up drinking alcohol forever if it meant US president Donald Trump would be impeached.

However, more than 30% of Republicans surveyed said they would abstain from alcohol if it meant the media would stop writing negative articles about the president.

The study, carried out by Detox.net, surveyed 1,013 men and women across the country what they would – or wouldn’t – give up to keep alcohol in their life.

The results also revealed that more than 23% of men and around 17% of women would choose not to give up alcohol to halt global climate change, while approximately 35% of men and more than 1% of women would rather drink alcohol than give 10 children in another country access to clean drinking water.

Exactly 36% of men and almost 26% of women wouldn’t give up alcohol for the rest of their life even if it meant saving the life of one stranger.

In total, 40% of heavy drinkers – classified as those who drink once a day or more – would rather lose a pet than give up alcohol. An additional 26% would give up their sense of smell forever, and 24% would choose to lose a finger.

The US spirits sector saw consumption rise by 2.6% last year, driven by double-digit growth in the Cognac category and high single-digit gains for Bourbon and Tequila.
