R&B appoints first Raasay distiller

R&B Distillers has named Heriot-Watt graduate Iain Robertson as the distiller at its new Isle of Raasay Scotch whisky production site, which is set to open in September 2017.

Robertson has worked at Edinburgh’s The Scotch Whisky Experience and in roles across drinks hospitality.

During his brewing and distilling studies at Heriot-Watt University, Robertson took a placement at the North British grain distillery.

“Iain is not only formally educated in the art and science of distilling but he is also an enthusiastic and innovative mind and has been working towards a role like this throughout his degree,” the Raasay distillery team said in an announcement.

“He’s the perfect fit for Raasay Distillery as someone who understands the core of the spirit but who will help us respectfully push the boundaries.

“And he tells us he’s a keen fisherman and hill walker – ready for the island life.”

R&B Distillers broke ground on the Raasay Scotch whisky distillery build in June 2016. Last month, the team announced it was undertaking barley trials to see if it would be possible to produce an ‘all-local’ whisky.
