Plans for ‘first’ independent Irish whiskey maturation site

Developers intend to build Ireland’s ‘first’ independent whiskey maturation and filling facility in County Westmeath if planning permission is granted.

Vault Whiskey Store intends to build 12 warehouses initially

‘Project Vault’, the €138 million (US$160m) initiative proposed by the Vault Whiskey Store, will comprise whiskey cask storage warehouses, a whiskey-filling hall and 12 maturation warehouses as part of ‘Phase 1’ of the application, with a capacity to hold 12,500 casks per warehouse.

Situated on approximately 100 acres of land in Moyvore, County Westmeath, the facility will enable whiskey producers to transport directly to the site and fill their casks, with a minimum maturation period of three years and no upper limit.

According to the Vault Whiskey Store website, if plans are approved ‘Phase 1’ of the project should be up and running by August 2018.

A public meeting to discuss the proposed whiskey warehouse project is due to take place in St Oliver’s Community Centre in Moyvore tomorrow (19 July) at 7.30pm.
