Distilled Spirits Council appoints Kevin Smith as CFO

US-based trade association The Distilled Spirits Council has named Kevin Smith as its senior vice president of finance and administration, succeeding Jean Gooding who retired after 20 years in the post.

Smith, who holds an MBA in urban development and real estate from the American University and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Maryland, was named CFO (chief financial officer) of the Year 2015 for his work at the United Way of the National Capital Arena.

Prior to his time at United Way, Smith spent more than 20 years in financial leadership roles at The Pew Charitable Trusts and the Fannie Mae Foundation.

“With more than two decades of financial experience in the not-for-profit sector, we are excited to bring Kevin aboard as we continue to modernise and upgrade the service and value we provide to our members,” said Distilled Spirits Council president and CEO, Kraig R. Naasz.

“We look forward to drawing on Kevin’s experience to help guide our administrative, financial and strategic efforts as we grow our membership.”

Smith added: “The Council is one of the most prestigious national associations in Washington.

“While widely recognised as a leader in advocating for the beverage alcohol sector at the state, federal and international levels, I’m also proud to join an organisation that promotes responsibility and moderation.”
