Beam Suntory completes Chicago HQ move

Spirits group Beam Suntory has now fully relocated its global headquarters from Deerfield in Illinois to a 110,000 sq ft property in downtown Chicago.

The move, which got under way in December 2016, means that more than 500 Beam Suntory employees now work from the new global HQ.

Located on the 16th floor of architectural landmark the Merchandise Mart, the space features walls made from oak barrel staves, copper elements inspired by stills and a story wall marking company milestones.

Employees can enjoy sit-or-stand desks and a fully functioning bar called Fred’s Rackhouse, after Jim Beam master distiller, Fred Noe.

In addition, staff can take advatange of tech which means they can take their work anywhere in the world.

The Merchandise Mart is considered one of Chicago’s premier business locations and has attracted internet, advertising, technology, healthcare and media companies, while remaining the world’s largest wholesale design centre. It became the largest LEED-EB-certified building in 2007.

“The relocation of our global headquarters to downtown Chicago is invigorating and exciting for our team,” said Matt Shattock, chairman and chief executive officer of Beam Suntory.

“We’ve moved into a bright, open and collaborative space that reflects our tremendous heritage and our future opportunities.  Importantly, cities are driving the growth of our industry and tomorrow’s trends. This move puts our business squarely in the centre of the action, closer to our customers and consumers in one of the world’s greatest cities.”

The move to Chicago also reinforces Beam Suntory’s links to the city, where it is the official spirits partner for baseball team the Chicago Cubs and their arena, Wrigley Field.

“For five consecutive years, Chicago has been number one in corporate relocations,” said city mayor, Rahm Emanuel.

“Like so many other companies, Beam Suntory recognised Chicago’s unparalleled talent pool and the critical investments we’re making in our future; Chicago is quite simply the perfect place to base their company.”
