Wemyss Malts unveils ‘extremely rare’ single cask whiskies

Edinburgh-based independent bottler Wemyss Malts has released three limited edition single cask Scotch whiskies from the Glenrothes, Clynelish and Bunnahabhain distilleries.

The trio of single casks are Italian Bakery Delight, Coastal Orchard, and Hike to the Haven

All bottled at their natural colour and non-chill filtered at 46% abv, the trio of single casks are Italian Bakery Delight, a 19-year-old expression from Glenrothes distillery; Coastal Orchard, a 19-year-old from Clynelish distillery; and Hike to the Haven, a 25-year-old from Bunnahabhain.

Italian Bakery Delight was bottled in 2016 with 347 bottles produced. It offers a “light palate” with flavours of “vanilla custard and honey coated baked stone fruits spread over a brioche bread”.

Coastal Orchard was also bottled in 2016 with 269 bottles produced. It offers a “mouth-coating” palate with top notes of “freshly crushed apple juice, citrus and salted caramel toffee”.

Hike to the Haven was distilled in 1990 with just 238 bottles produced. Its finish is described as “salty and briny with touches of greenery like a salad dressed with seaweed vinaigrette”.

“The US is extremely important for us due to the rising interest in craft spirits, and we’re delighted to introduce these three single cask, single malt Scotch whiskies exclusively with Palm Bay International,” said William Wemyss, founder and managing director of Wemyss Malts.

“These limited production bottlings are extremely rare and I’m sure they will be much sought after by Scotch connoisseurs.”

Palm Bay International also imports Wemyss Malts range of blended malt Scotch whiskies: The Hive, Spice King and Peat Chimney, as well as Darnley’s View London Dry Gin.

The trio are available in limited markets in the US and range from US$130-US$200 per 750ml bottle.
