Old Forester Statesman to debut in Kingsman film

Brown-Forman is set to unveil a special edition Bourbon for its Old Forester brand, created in partnership with upcoming action spy film Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

Old Forester Statesman will be available in the US in August

Bottled at 95 proof, Old Forester Statesman is described as “buttery leather dominated by a bold flash of pepper, cinnamon bark and sharp citrus” on the palate. On the finish, it has notes of “intense spice and eucalyptus which fade into orange cream and caramel”.

In the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service, an allied spy organisation in Louisville, Kentucky called Statesman uses Bourbon as a front, just as Britain’s Kingsman organisation uses a bespoke tailoring company as a front to hide its true identity.

Bourbon plays a significant role in the film, from the setting of the distillery to each agent in Statesman having a spirits-based codename.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn, the sequel stars original cast members Colin Firth, Taron Egerton and Mark Strong, and introduces Jeff Bridges as agent Champagne, Channing Tatum as agent Tequila, Pedro Pascal as agent whiskey, Halle Berry as Ginger and Julianne Moore as the film’s main antagonist Poppy.

“Bourbon is an American tradition that Old Forester has celebrated for five generations, and we’re proud to reinforce the authenticity of the characters, The Statesman, as bourbon distillers,” said Campbell Brown, president of Brown-Forman.

“When choosing partners for the Kingsman brand, I look for excellence, integrity and taste. Old Forester is my first partner who takes the taste requirement to the next level,” said Vaughn.

Celebrating the film’s inclusion of Louisville, Kentucky, as home of the Statesman, Louisville’s Mayor, Greg Fischer, declared the premiere date of 22 September as Statesman Day in the city.

A sneak peek of the film which highlights Old Forester Statesman and Kentucky will debut to fans at the Kentucky Derby this Saturday (6 May).

Jeff Bridges will be in attendance at this year’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs and attendees at the track will be the first to sample the new product.

Old Forester Statesman will be available for purchase in the US in August at an RRP of US$54.99.
