Bombay Sapphire bottles with 77% abv recalled in Canada

Bacardi has recalled bottles of its Bombay Sapphire gin from supermarket shelves in Canada after one batch was accidentally bottled at 77% abv – almost double the brand’s labelled strength.

According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Bacardi triggered the recall after discovering that during production, one batch had been bottled before the correct dilution to achieve 40% abv.

The CFIA has asked consumers to check their Bombay Sapphire products at home and then discard the liquid if it matches the specifications provided, or return the bottle to the store from which it was purchased.

The agency said it is conducting a food safety organisation that “may lead to the recall of other products”.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product, according to the CFIA.
