Plans for ‘first’ whisky distillery in Derbyshire
The UK county of Derbyshire is preparing to welcome what is thought to be its first whisky distillery after a planning application was submitted to Amber Valley Borough Council.
White Peak Distillery will produce English single malt whisky
Located in the industrial units at Derwent Works in Ambergate, White Peak Distillery is planning to operate a full-scale distillery, a visitor shop and a tasting area.
The distillery will produce English single malt whisky, with plans to create at least 11 new jobs over its first three years of operation.
Derby Enterprise Growth Fund has agreed to provide grant funding support in principle to the distillery, linked to the creation of jobs at White Peak Distillery.
The plans would involve the conversion of two buildings at the site including the installation of a grain storage silo.
In the planning application, the distillery states it will bring multiple local benefits such as “broadening access to and knowledge of the areas heritage, generating local employment through using local suppliers and services and establishing a viable commercial business for the long-term”.
A decision is expected to be made by the council on the 6 June.
