By Michael J RitchieTales of the Cocktail (TOTC) is to establish a diversity council with the purpose of evaluating and developing diversity and inclusion initiatives within the organisation.
TOTC is to launch a diversity council
The council, made up of both industry leaders and employees, is tasked with of jumpstarting initiatives, as well as managing its progress. TOTC says the process will be transparent, with each initiative documented and then made available to the public.
The group’s mission is to ensure every aspect of Tales of the Cocktail’s event programmes and the company’s internal structure promotes diversity and inclusiveness in regard to gender, race and ethnicity.
TOTC founder, Ann Tuennerman, said: “To create an industry that’s truly inclusive, there are a lot of difficult discussions that need to be had. We’re hoping that by bringing a group together to have these discussions we’ll be able to move towards actionable solutions.”
The company has already invited a number of people industry representatives to lead the diversity council who will then recruit other members to help them anonymously. Names will be announced once their participation is confirmed.
The initiative follows the resignation of TOTC chief business officer Paul Tuennerman following public backlash over a ‘blackface’ video of Ann, who is also his wife.
