Captain Morgan rum launches coconut shot
By Amy HopkinsDiageo-owned Captain Morgan is aiming to enhance its presence in the shots market with the launch of a coconut-flavoured rum liqueur, called LocoNut.
Coconut-flavoured Captain Morgan LocoNut targets the shot marketLocoNut follows the 2015 launch of Captain Morgan Cannon Blast – a mix of Caribbean rum, natural flavours and a “bold spice blend” of citrus, chipotle and jalapeño pepper – and the 2016 launch of Captain Morgan Jack-O’Blast – said to be the first pumpkin-flavoured spiced rum on the market.
Captain Morgan LocoNut, bottled at 20% abv, is made with Caribbean rum, coconut liqueur, spices and “natural flavours”.
In line with Captain Morgan’s previous shot expressions, LocoNut is contained in a round bottle that resembles a coconut – a ‘scratch and sniff’ function also means the bottle offers a coconut scent.
The expression is marketed as gluten-free and is available across the US at an RRP of US$14.99 for a 750ml bottle.
While Diageo says LocoNut is “best enjoyed as a chilled shot”, it comes with a number of tropical cocktail and mixed shot serving suggestions.
Captain Morgan moved into flavoured rum in 2015 with the released of three fruity expressions – Pineapple, Coconut and Grapefruit
