‘World’s first’ coffee-infused mezcal launches

A UK entrepreneur has launched what is claimed to be the “world’s first” coffee-infused mezcal, called Dangerous Don.

Dangerous Don mezcal has been steeped in Mexico-grown Noam Quiem Organic Coffee beans

Released in the UK next month, Dangerous Don has been distilled twice before being steeped in Mexico-grown Noam Quiem Organic Coffee beans. The spirit is then distilled for a third time.

The expression, said to have a flavour of caramel and chocolate with a sweet and smoky finish, has been crafted by mezcalero Celso Martine in Santiago Matatlan, the ‘world capital of mezcal’.

It is the brainchild of London-based Thea Cumming, who previously acted as manager for Pitt Cue’s Southbank pop up and was part of the launch team for Coombeshead Farm. Simon Anderson – founder of Pitt Cue Co and Pertwee, Anderson and Gold Gallery – is the advisor and investor for the brand.

Dangerous Don will be unveiled at a consumer launch event at 15 Bateman Street, Soho, on 3 and 4 March, alongside an art exhibition showcasing the work of “up-and-coming” artists and photographers based in Oaxaca.

The mezcal is bottled at 48% abv and is priced £59.99 (about US$75.00).

Earlier this week, Bermuda-based drinks group Bacardi confirmed it had acquired a minority stake in Ilegal Mezcal, which will continue to operate independently.
