Whisky Exchange launches Old & Rare show
The organisers of The Whisky Exchange Whisky Show have announced plans to host a new event in February 2017 dedicated to “old and rare” expressions.
The Whisky Exchange has launched an Old & Rare event, set to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, next year
Set to take place at Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel, Scotland, on 18 and 19 February, The Whisky Exchange says it expects to attract more than 400 visitors to sample whiskies “produced in bygone eras”.
Led by industry figures Angus MacRaild and Jonny McMillan, The Whisky Show: Old & Rare will feature liquid from collectors, speciality whisky bars and independent bottlers.
The line-up currently includes Bowmore 1957, 38 year old; Glenlivet Generations 1940, 70 year old; Hannisville Rye Pre-Prohibiton, believed to be distilled in 1863; Glenrothes 1932, 42 year old; and Glen Grant 10 year old, bottled in the 1950s.
“We’ve enjoyed great popularity with the London show where there is a great appetite for discovery,” said show manager Andrew Milne.
“It’s always been our desire to run a show specialising in old and rare whisky and it feels like a natural step to bring something back to whisky’s homeland and share drams together in their country of birth.
“Our theme of Old & Rare is answering the need for something interesting and different and offering a chance to try whiskies that many of us will never be able to buy.”
Day tickets are available now, priced at £100 which includes £50-worth of whisky tokens, a free tasting glass and access to hundreds of “old and rare” whiskies.
Earlier this year The Whisky Exchange revealed its trend insights for 2017, backing the low-/no- alcohol trend, with Brexit also set to shape the sector.
