Dry January? Hotel signs up for ‘Ginuary’ instead
By Kristiane SherryA UK hotel is rebuffing the Dry January concept with the launch of ‘Ginuary’, a month of cocktails featuring a different gin each day.
The Grand Hotel & Spa in York will offer the diverse spread of cocktails in an effort to encourage guests to explore the “huge range” of gins now available.
The 31 cocktails feature gins from surrounding Yorkshire, the UK and around the world, with serves ranging from classic G&T concoctions to more intriguing libations.
Gins included in the calendar include Napue from Finland on the 4th, Hendrick’s on the 9th, South African’s Whitley Neill on the 10th, locally produced Slingsby on the 19th and Correwyn Genever on the 23rd.
Also on offer are an afternoon tea menu, featuring gin-infused cakes, and the Gin & Tonic Cocktail Kitchen group experience for wannabe mixologists.
“The Grand’s ‘Ginuary’ is our way of helping to ease the post-Christmas and New Year come-down, with a fun month of new and creative ways to enjoy one of the best-loved tipples around,” said Louise Gee, sales manager at The Grand.
“From tasting and discovering new gins, to crafting your own cocktails, or ‘gindulging’ in a gin-infused afternoon tea, there are lots of Grand ways to beat the January blues.”
The Ginuary events are open to both non-residents and guests throughout the month.
Last year a leading health lecturer argued that the Dry January campaign could “do more harm than good” by sending out an all-or-nothing “binary message”.
