Walsh creates vintage cask strength whiskeys

Walsh Whiskey Distillery has launched limited edition cask strength expressions of its The Irishman and Writers Tears Irish whiskey brands.

Walsh Whiskey has released two cask strength expressions

Just 1,800 bottles of The Irishman Cask Strength 2016 and 2,640 bottles of Writers Tears Cask Strength 2016 have been released worldwide.

Bottled at 54% abv, The Irishman expression is a vatting of single pot still and single malt Irish whiskey that has been matured in first-fill Bourbon casks hand-selected by Walsh Whiskey founder Bernard Walsh.

The Irishman Cask Strength 2016 is available across 11 countries and carries an RRP of €120.

“This whiskey is ripe, full and elegant,” said Bernard Walsh. “Delicate forest fruits dovetail with mellow spices and orchard berries, all giving way to a long gentle finish of barley and dark chocolate bursting with complexity and flavour.”

Writers Tears Cask Strength 2016, bottled at 53% abv, is a triple distilled blend of single pot still and single malt whiskey aged in Bourbon barrels.

The whiskey is available across eight markets globally, also with an RRP of €120.

“To me it presents elegant and luscious notes of poached pear, sweet barley and creamy oak,” added Walsh. “It offers the palate hints of white chocolate and red fruit and, to finish the experience, we get delicate mandarin tones with oak powering through single pot still spice.”

Last month, Walsh Whiskey released a 17-year-old single cask expression of The Irishman in celebration of the opening of its new €25 million distillery in County Carlow.
