Bowmore releases final Black Bowmore for £16k

Islay single malt Bowmore has released Black Bowmore 50 Year Old, The Last Cask – the fifth and final edition of its historic 1964 collection, priced at £16,000.

Bowmore has released the fifth and final edition of its exclusive Black Bowmore 1964 distillation

The liquid used to created the Black Bowmore series was distilled on 5 November 1964 at the brand’s distillery on Islay, and after four releases – the first in 1993 and the most recent in 2007 – the brand has finally bottled the remaining liquid.

Black Bowmore 50 Year Old, The Last Cask has been ageing in Bowmore’s No. 1 Vaults – the world’s “oldest” Scotch maturation warehouse – for half a century, and takes its name and dark colouring from “intense” maturation in first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks.

The expression boasts notes of tropical fruit and honeyed black truffle complemented by the “signature peat smoke notes” of Bowmore, and is presented in a bespoke handmade cabinet.

Distillery manager David Turner – whose Grandfather worked on the original bottling over 50 years ago – said: “This last cask of Black Bowmore to be rediscovered not only demonstrates the unparalleled depth and quality of our single malts but cements Bowmore as one of the world’s leading whiskies.”

Only 159 bottles of Black Bowmore 50 Year Old will be available internationally; 10 within the UK. The whisky has an RRP of £16,000.
