On-demand alcohol delivery service Drizly witnessed record-breaking week night sales on the evening of the US presidential election, with spirits orders peaking as the night went on.

Drizly witnessed record-breaking week night sales on the evening of the US presidential election

Overall wine prevailed as the drink of choice – securing 48% of the orders – with spirits claiming 30% and beer 23%, but as the night rumbled on and results poured in from across the country onlookers turned to the hard stuff.

American spirits were top of the picks, with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Bulleit Bourbon, and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey each securing a spot in the retailer’s top 10 best-sellers.
The night marked Drizly’s biggest Tuesday in its history, with sales up 86% on a “typical” tuesday.

The hardest drinkers were on the coasts, with New York making the largest number of orders, followed by Boston, Denver, Washington DC and Los Angeles.

Chief cocktail officer, Trisha Antonsen, said: “Drizly saw its highest volume of weekday and night orders (Monday-Thursday) this past election Tuesday. Wine topped the list at nearly 50% of orders, which is surprising for us as beer is usually number one in volume.

“As the night went on order volume for hard alcohol options such as vodka and whiskey spiked.”
